Governance Memory System (GMS)
| Wed Feb 18, 17:00-18:00 (2 weeks from now) | |
Abstract: In this seminar, Othman Gbadamassi will present on the Governance Memory System (GMS): a framework for preventing governance failures in decentralized protocols through institutional memory infrastructure.
GMS addresses “governance amnesia,” the inability of decentralized protocols to learn from past decisions due to lack of systematic memory. Drawing from 4+ years of direct observation across blockchain ecosystems (Cosmos, Solana, NEAR, Sui), the framework provides a five-layer diagnostic approach: Proposal Lifecycle Metadata, Outcome Review Anchors, Power Mapping, Governance Health Indicators, and Real-Time Feedback.
This is relevant to Metagov as it is informed by systematic analysis of governance failures and positions institutional memory as foundational infrastructure for coordination (analogous to “creating a second brain for blockchains”), and is currently being piloted with NEAR Protocol’s House of Stake with formal implementation requests already generated.
The talk is for anyone interested in DAO governance, institutional memory systems, commons governance, blockchain coordination, and preventive approaches to knowledge organization.

The Metagovernance Seminar invites individuals working in online governance to present their work to a community of other researchers and practitioners. Topics of the seminar include, but are not limited to, computational tools for governance, governance incidents and case studies from online communities, topics in cryptoeconomics, and the design of digital constitutions.

The seminar is intended for researchers and practitioners in online governance, broadly defined. We welcome guests and curious members of the public, but please note that the discussion is moderated. Our governance structure is defined here: metagov.pubpub.org/metagov-governance
Please contact a planning committee member (Nathan Schneider, Divya Siddarth, Michael Zargham, Joshua Tan, and Seth Frey) if you are interested in becoming a member of the seminar.
